Raycast is a productivity command bar tool that allows you to access tons of cool features and (free) extensions to make your workflow more efficient. The best part? Almost the entire Yummygum team are avid Raycast users, making it a popular choice among both designers and developers. But what sets Raycast apart from other productivity tools out there? Well for one, it's incredibly intuitive and easy to use. With just a few keystrokes, you can access a wealth of features and extensions that will help you get your work done faster and more efficiently.

This is the first in a two piece blog post series dedicated to Raycast and its extensions we use as professionals. Today I’ll share some of our favorite Raycast extensions, specifically for development.

Our top extensions for development

github
1. GitHub

Yep, you probably guessed it just by looking at the name; this extension allows you to search through your GitHub repositories, view your pull requests, and even create new issues without ever leaving your code editor. We mainly use it for quick access to the repository.

2. Search NPM packages

This extension allows you to search for NPM packages. This can make it easier to search for any (new) dependencies for a particular use case or project.

3. Color Picker

The Color Picker extension lets you quickly select a color using a color picker interface to subsequently copy the corresponding HEX or RGB code to your clipboard. This can be very helpful when working with CSS that requires color codes for example.

4. Doppler Share Secret

Doppler is a secure secrets manager for developers. The Raycast Doppler Share Secret extension allows you to swiftly and easily share secrets with your team members without ever leaving your code editor. This is especially useful for securely sharing passwords, tokens or other notes.

5. Can I Use

The Can I Use extension provides easy access to the caniuse.com website. In case you don’t know, the Can I Use website provides information on web browser compatibility for various web technologies. This can be very helpful for developers who need to ensure that their projects work across multiple web browsers.

6. Tailwind CSS

Tailwind CSS is a popular utility-first CSS framework that allows developers to quickly and easily create custom designs. The Raycast Tailwind CSS extension provides easy access to the Tailwind CSS documentation right from your Raycast command bar. This allows  you to quickly find and copy the code they need for your projects.

7. UUID Generator

The UUID Generator extension allows you to generate UUIDs (Universally Unique Identifiers). UUIDs are often used as unique identifiers for various objects in a project, such as database records or API keys. This extension can save time and help ensure that UUIDs are generated in a consistent and standardized way.

8. Lorem Ipsum

I guess you already know what this extension does. That’s right, it generates Lorem Ipsum text. Necessary when you want to use some dummy data in your code, like testing an extra long text for example.

As you can see there are tons of small wins to be made as a developer by using Raycast. Are there any Raycast extensions you use you think we missed? Please do share on Twitter!
